Handrails, balustrades and steel stairs

We make and fit steel handrails, balustrades and stairs for steps, decks, landings and walkways. Each one is measured on site and built to suit the opening, rather than adapted from a stock length.

Built in the workshop and fitted at your place. We can finish them painted, powder coated or galvanised, which is worth doing on anything outside or near the coast.

Questions about Handrails & Balustrades

What height does a balustrade need to be in Australia?

At least 1 metre above the floor and 865 mm above the front of the steps on a stair. You need one wherever someone could fall more than 1 metre. The gaps can't let a 125 mm ball through. We build to the code, so you don't have to look it up.

Do I need a handrail for 3 steps?

Usually not. The building code only asks for one once house stairs rise about 1 metre, which is five or six steps. It's still worth having on steps that get wet or for older family.

How do you fix a rusty handrail?

If the rust's only on the surface, we clean it back and refinish it. If it's rusted through at the base, we cut that part out and weld in new steel or make you a new rail.
